Topic Dog Boards / General / In season speying..?

Hello all!

Have trawled through the old posts but have found no answer to my problem so was hoping you could sort us out.    My little staffy girl had her first season at 7 months old which she finished mid december and on the vets advice, we booked her in for her to be speyed 14 weeks after that.  That brings us to about now and she is booked to be speyed in 2 days time (Mon 3rd). Yesterday she started behaving oddly, digging her bedding, very cuddly, sleepy and sad looking then this evening i noticed 3 drops of reddy brown liquid on the floor and am now worried she has come into season again already and assume this means i must post pone her op.  Have noticed her vulva seems slightly more swollen again but thought it was my imagination as she never really shrunk back to shape anyway.

Please help, can't phone the vet until monday morning at 8am and she is due there at 8.15am and am woried for her in case its not a season and its something else.

Id take her in for a check up but if she IS in season then you do not want to get her spayed now.

Hi Jess,

The reason most vets say 14 weeks (or three months) is because it's bang in the middle of a normal cycle of seasons and less chance of anything going wrong (excessive bleeding, etc) during the operation.  If I were you I'd take the bitch as planned to the vets on Monday and just get one of the vets to look at her before you leave her there and see what they think.

If anything more happens before Monday that worries you I'd ring your vets' emergency number and see if they want to see her before hand.

thanks for your help.

Oh well, guess I'll just have to go buy a load of dust sheets etc to cover the brand new beige carpet I've just had laid thinking she was well over that!!!

I'm just wondering if perhaps she has an infection?  If you tell the vet's what's happening, they can give her a good check up tomorrow.

Yes but that shoudl be 3 months from the start of the season, not from the end.

I ahve had a number of bitches have four month intervals when they first ahd seasons and gradually the intervals have lengthened to around 6 - 7 months (always counting from first day).
