Has anyone used any of the natural calming liquids for dogs, and with what effect ?? Been trying rescue remedy, not that good though. Puppy is full of her self at home !!!

I think that is puppies for you :)  You could try her on a food without colourings as these seem to affect a few dogs but trying to suppress natural puppy exuberance with chemicals, either herbal or pharmaceutical, rescue remedy has high levels of alcohol!, seems wrong to me.

What is your puppy nervous of?
You say pup is ok at home so it is probably a case of working on outside distractions.
It is quite normal for a puppy to be unsure of new noises/sights such as traffic, bicyles etc.. and these encounters should be included in your socialisation plan for your puppy.

I agree that a change of diet can make a real difference (without starting a food debate:eek:) I changed my puppy from Beta to Arden Grange and the change in her behaviour was clearly noticable.

If there is a specific thing that causes fear in your puppy, maybe we could advise on how to work on that before considering remedies?
Having a 9 mth old springer I think it would take a few bottles of neat alcohol to calm her down entirely LOL, I'd worry more if she was over confident or fearful all of the time.

What is uncalm about her and what is wrong with a puppy being full of herself?

I would hope that all my puppies are full of themselves!

If your puppy is nervous is it of everything or is it that she does not like showing, not sure I understand the post.

tohme.
I think the poster is saying that the pup is nervous when out of the house, but at home she's confident and outgoing.

Thanks for your replys. I want an exuberant puppy. She is nervous, to the stage of p...ing herself when we go to ringcraft classes. She is o.k with people and other dogs, its just the noises in the halls. We take her every where, walk up the street by the shops, into pet shops, where ever there are new noises. I normally get my new pups out very early after injections, but due to me being ill, I have not been able to do it with this one. At home she is in charge of everyone, so she thinks !! she is a real extrovert. Just hope time and patience will work, as she is a little cracker !

Have you tried saving her meal until ringcraft and then taking her to a quiet corner and feeding it to her bit by bit ?  (hopefully there is a quiet corner?)  This may help her focus on something enjoyable and help her forget to be scared/nervous ;)

You could also try taking a tape recorder (without taking her ;) ) and recording the noises to play in between classes just so she gets used to the noises ;) :D

Hope this helps

If it's noises why dont you get one of those tapes with lots of different sounds and play it to her everytime she has a meal she will soon get used to them.  Blue cross sell them for a pound:cool:
