Just interested, do you sell on your dog puppies to a show home if their testicles have not decended? Or do you run them on or sell to a pet home?
Cheers Nick

neither of the dogs from my last litter had testicles descended at 8 weeks- i think i could feel them slightly but couldnt be sure. i thought they come down later?

What if they didn't and you sold to a show home?

I dont think that I would let a puppy go to a show home if I was unsure. I kept the dog puppy from my litter until he was 6months old,and this week I have had the retained testicle removed at the vets{it was in his groin and wasnt going to move}. Before I let any of the pups go, the vet checked them all over, and the undescended testicle was found straight away.
I know that sometimes the testicle can descend, but its not guaranteed.

Hi nick,

In my breed you'd have a hard job finding descended testicles at 8 weeks.   If there's a problem in a certain breed or line within that breed and you're selling as a show prospect I would see it as only fair that the buyer should be informed that they weren't down (or able to be felt).  To be honest testicles can be apparent (if felt for) at 8 weeks and then one (or both) might never fully descend.
It's like anything else when buying a puppy as a show prospect - things can go wrong.
