Topic Dog Boards / General / How do you get rid of dog wee smell?
- By montysmum [gb] Date 30.03.06 12:17 UTC
  Hi, I got home from work yesterday to find that Monty had had a bit of a sock-fest whilst I was at work, and in his excitement had an accident in one of the bedrooms!  I soaked up the excess then I used bio washing powder and hot water to clen the carpet with.  This morning when I looked, the stain is fading, but there is still a distinct odour of Monty wee!  How can I get rid of it?  Many thanks.

I use a liquid called Simple Solution, have found it to be very good, I use it for all sorts inlcuding washing my floors and the cats' litter trays. Petshops sell it.

wee + carpet = big problem.

What you wil find, especially if you could lift the carpet up, is that the minerals and salts in the wee go back to crystal form when it dries out a bit. Then when it gets damp again, they absorb moisture and pong again.

IF you have a carpet cleaner, (ive got a vax), soak the stain as much as you dare with hot water and some bio washing powder nad slurp that back otu with the carpet cleaner. Repeat until you are sick of doing it.
Blot the stain with some towels until its as dry as you can get it, and then dump a generous load of bicarb of soda on it and leave it a good 12 hours.
Then hoover that off - it should draw out a large amount of the 'pong' making salts.

Unless you can lift up the carpet that is abotu as good as you are going to get.
