Hi

I have always wanted a min wired haired dachsie, preferable a red one but not sure what the proper name is lol.

I have told hubby who isnt that keen but as agreed on the condition I save and pay for her myself.

So  have brought myself a money box. Can some kind person please give me idea how much I would be expected to pay for a good bitch. I have  afeeling its going to take me many years at this rate to save enough but you never know I may get lucky on the lottery.

This really a bit of fun but I would love a dachsie and would love to hear more about the breed from people that know them. I have done a bit of reading on the net and drooled over puppy pictures but what are they like as a pet and family dog.  I am no were ready to get one yet just planning for the future.

hey great choice! theres a crufts winning breeder near me- she charges roughly £700-£750 for males, £750-£800 for females. i'll pm you details of her if you want- fab lady whos really down to earth and will tell you lots about her wirehaired daschunds- can be called Teckels.

I am not really wanting to phone anyone yet, not wanting to waste anyones time as I wouldnt be getting it for a long while yet. Unless i win the lottery of course lol.

Breders do plan ahead (soemtimes it doesn't quite work out, lol) so it is never to early to register an interest with a breder, and just keep them updated with your plans.

Certainly a breeder should be more than happy to arrange for you to visit them, even if you do not end up getting one from them or decide the breed isn't for you.

Contact breeders/ owners now and if you find people local to you go and visit them.

With our breed we had our first (and only) litter nearly 8 years ago, over teh past 3 years two planed litters have fell though and we will plan the next litter for 2-3 years time however in all our years of having this breed we have had people round to see the dogs in their home environment even though these people won't be getting a puppy from us, some even decided after seeing the dogs they wern't for them.

I'm sure I'm not a one off and many people in all the breeds will do the same.

People who truley love their breed will talk about them 24/7 to anyone! :D

hi lumphy, good choice! i have 5 mini longhaired reds and they are absolutely adorable.  they are the most loyal breed of dog but be warned i have never met a fellow dachshund owner who has been happy with one! you will have to get saving hard as they are such an addictive breed you will probably end up with at least two.  i havent had much contact with wire haired but i can tell you that the long haired although not particularly friendly with strangers are fantastic family pets.  my two boys can walk for miles although the girls prefer just short trips.  my eldest girl like many female doxies thinks she is royalty and will sit for hours on my lap as long as she is getting told how beautiful she is.  loads of luck with your saving and to have a dachshund in your life will definitely be worth the wait!
