Topic Dog Boards / Health / Hot dry nose and hot pads

I have a 5 month old Border Collie puppy who always has a hot dry nose and hot pads when she is indoors, as soon as we go outside she is fine.  I am pretty sure that this is because she is still not use to our central heating, particularly as she spent the first 7 weeks of her life in a barn.

She is very healthy, with a shiny coat and bounds about the place as most puppies do, but my other dog who is 9 has a nice cold moist nose.

I did mention it to the vet when we first got her and she said it was more than likely be because she hasn't got use to the central heating, however as she is still feeling the heat I am wondering if I should take her back to the vets, except in all other aspects she seems perfectly healthy.

Any thouhts from anyone would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Perhaps your central heating's set too high for her? What sort of coat does your other dog have?

My other dog has a thicker coat than the puppy, however Cleo has always been an indoor dog and does quite like the heat, if we put a fan heater on, Cleo will sit right in front of it.

Thanks for your reply, I will try and cool down the house where she is and see if that helps.

Thanks

My dog often has a dry nose indoors too - I never thought there was anything wrong really as she always seems to be healthy.
