Topic Dog Boards / Health / Flea products - drops or spray ?
- By ClaireyS Date 27.03.06 20:43 UTC
Having just had my arms scratched to pieces by my cats for spraying them with frontline im beginning to wonder whether to go back to the drops ?  i changed to the spray because I thought it would work better on both fleas and ticks (we see more ticks than fleas) as it soaks the whole coat, and im not too sure how the drops work

what does everyone else do ? the drops are much easier but I think the spray works out cheaper - one bottle does the dogs and cats.

i use  drop on both cats and dogs so much easier and if you look online try looking at equine mega-store...do search and look at the site cheaper then buying over the counter ....very reliable i use them all the time for my horse also...usually get stuff within 5 working days all the way from australia....!!!!!!

I found the last few times I tried Frontline spray it didn't work at ALL. You could spray it right onto a flea and it would still not die. Used the drops instead and haven't seen any fleas for years now, and yes, it IS a lot easier. :)

Yes the spray works out cheaper, but its a hassle indeed. They both take a while to work 12-24 hrs ish...

The spot-on works by spreading out across the surface of skin which the fleas take up by biting into skin.

At work we use the spray on kittens that are heavily infested or on anaesthetised feral cats- it does work but not instantly.

The spray is good to kill single ticks- by soaking a piece of cotton wool and dabbing the tick with it until wet!-wear gloves.

Just remember that only 5% of fleas are living on the animal- the rest is in the home in different forms-larvae,pupae, the pupae can never be killed- have to hatch out and then be killed!

I agree with you and prefer to use the spray.  It is also less oncentrated so I feel it is safer to sue if it gets on my skin.  when I do my Dads cat I just get hold of the scruff and make sure I have long sleaves and gloves on.

yeah, I hold onto the scruff and usually they are still but on of the b#ggers got away from me.  I always do the house the same time as I do the animals.

would I not need a perscription to get frontline over the counter ?

you should be able to just buy it from your vets if youre registered there and they have seen the pet its to be used on.

I do already, someone mention buying it mail order I was wondering if I needed a perscription as I know you do with the canine chemist.
