My bitch has just finished her first season, she is a white dog and I noticed her tail is marked. I thought this was dried blood and I washed her but I cannot remove the stains or marks.
Somebody told me it could be a hormone related thing, it is called stud tail.
Has anybody heard of this?
If so what do I do to improve my dogs tail as it looks rather unsightly.

Stud tail is found in males, that's why it's called stud tail.  More than likely if it's a pinky colour she has been cleaning herself a bit too well and it's just staining from her licking.  Stud tail also usually results in a loss of fur.

I usually give a nice bath after a season it helps to remove any scent and keeps the males at bay
try using a shampoo for a white coat available at PAH or Hub international .
Once she stops cleaning herself excessively the pink will eventually grow out.

I have never heard of stud tail in dogs but definitely in cats!  http://www.provet.co.uk/Petfacts/healthtips/studtail.htm
