Sorry, me again :D

I'm planning on buying a chest freezer but can't figure out from the descriptions they give how much food you'll actually be able to fit in. If something is described as 180 litres storage capacity, how does that translate to food storage in kgs or whatever..

The smallest chest freezer/table top freezer holds about 90lbs of frozen food IME

If your thinking of buying the freezer for dog supplies, I have a 6 foot chest freezer. I find that it is only just big enough to accomodate my delivery from Landywoods. They have a minimum order amount of £50.00 worth. This last a couple of months for two dogs, its amazing how much room the bones alone take. I already had my freezer but was underused as now everyone likes to eat fresh. At least now its running economicaly and full as intended.  

Well our first landywoods order came yesterday and I had massively underestimated just how much space the bones would take up :rolleyes: I was out walking the dog and got an emergency(!) phone call from my mum saying that the order had arrived and she had fitted all she could fit in our new chest freezer, two drawers in the kitchen freezer, and a small block freezer on the top of a fridge in the garage but that there were still about 3 black-bag sized plastic bags full of big lumps of rib cage and knuckle bones and stuff now defrosting! I got home and had to unpack everything that had already been put away as she is a bit cack handed :D and I suspected more would fit in if packed properly. I managed to fit another huge bag in, and then we got a friend to send her husband round to collect two bags full of bones to put in their chest freezer lol.

Our chest freezer says it fits a maxium of 171 litres. I worked out how many lbs I could fit in in blocks of meat and had minused a bit off that for bone space, but obviously not enough! At one moment it was either laugh or cry - I laughed :D, whilst my mum was frantically mopping blood off the hall floor

I got my first Landywoods order last week, with huge thanks to Louise for organising a delivery up to Scotland :)  I already had a small chest freezer and had bought a 9.1 cu ft one too. The new freezer is holding 150lb tripe, 60lb chunked liver and 60lb chicken wings. The old freezer has 45 marrow bones in it...unfortunately I wasn't really thinking when I flung the bones in and now I have one HUGE big frozen bone I highly recommend putting the bones in individual carrier bags before freezing :D

Confused now as our stuff was already frozen when it was delivered - although a bit defrosted by the time I had got back home and re-arranged everything, with several bags seeping blood out the bottom where bones had poked through the plastic! :D

The order we got up to Scotland was frozen, but similar to yours had defrosted a bit by the time everyone picked it up.. It was a huge delivery that came to me and we all pitched in and either picked up or met people along the way..

I think the bones were fresh not frozen? The tripe, liver etc was all frozen - starting to defrost but froze again very quickly.

Yes I think you are right the bones just seemed "chilled" rather than solid

I have to add, just for the fun of it, that when I got to Louises it was some sight that greeted me. Her back garden was covered in parts of dead animals! There were mountains of food and bones all over the place, covered by duvets etc to help keep them frozen - god knows what the neighbours thought!! :D :D

The neighbours are great (well nearly all) Next door actually took the order for me.. and helped cover it up..

I nearly dropped when I seen all the meat though.. somehow it didn't look that much when it was written down on a few sheets of paper

Anyone know where to get a reasonably cheap chest freezer? (Landywoods here I come!)

I got mine off ebay, brand new with warranty and £20 cheaper than comet etc including delivery. You can also check your local free ads paper for a second hand one.
