hey
i was wondering if anyone could help i have a 8 1/2 month old cocker and still no signs of her coming on..i know all bitches are different, and its like saying how long is a piece of string. but i thought most dogs come on between 6-9 months.  But then again i have never just had one dog before, so in the past one has brought on another.
any help or advice would be cool

My CKCS, Tilly was 7 months when she came into her first season but I have know Cavvies to be upto 12 months old

thanks, i just wasn't sure if she was "normal" ..well if you can ever call a spaniel that!! she is still very much the puppy, dunno if that has anythin to do with it, very clever but immature.

Hi Emma,

if you check with your breeder you may find that her bitch line follows an obvious pattern - sometimes that's the best indicator :)

I wouldn't worry too much, my working cocker has just started her first season and she's 11 months old. Apparently her mother started hers at about the same time.  I was always led to believe that you should only start to investigate when the bitch gets near to a 2nd birthday.

Nothing to do with Cockers but I've heard of Shelties not having their first season until almost 18 months old

I've had bitches who haven't had their 1st seasons until 14 - 17 months

I have cockers and the youngest was 9 months,  oldest 14 months, my youngest girl is now 11 months but not had a season yet.

Many Spanish Water Dogs don't have their first season until nearly 2 and then are as regular as clockwork after that!  Don't know about Cockers though.
