is it safe to give evening primrose oil to our westie, if so how much should we give her?

My little westie has an itchy skin problem which was quite bad last year (parts of her coat were oily to the touch and she had several bald patches and scratched constantly) so I switched her to Naturediet and natural treats - i.e. raw bones (twice a week), JWB treats, raw hide and I bake my own liver cake.  Occasionally she gets a cooked meal (same as I would eat) as a treat.  She also gets an evening primrose oil tablet every second day and once a week Omega 3 and 6 oil and her coat and health have improved dramatically!  All I can say is that it works for my westie.

Yes you can safely give EPO to dogs apart from those who suffer from epilepsy.

You cannot really OD so any of those sold specifically for dogs would be fine ie from Dorwest or OTC products.

If you are considering it for use for the skin I would also give Fish Body Oils for the Omega 3s along with Vitamin E (natural not synthetic).
