Police are still trying to locate the owners but they probably won't get much more than a slap on the wrists :(

The dogs were just alone? Sad story indeed... but it seems a bit slanted, no?  Two ravage pitbulls... no owners on site... not fighting dogs, but possibly in training (based on....?), bitch had puppies lately..... I would love to hear more on this story.  I feel so sad for the collie owner.

From talking to people in work who live in the area where the attack happened it would seem that the dogs probably escpaed from a house or garden. Stray and latch-key dogs are by no means a rarity in the area where this happened and the sight of a couple of dogs roaming the streets would not cause so much as a raised eye brow.

Pit bulls and their crosses are very common here. I regularly see a couple of nice ones out on walks (they are always kept on lead and the owners keep themselves to themselves). There is also known to be a lot of dog-fighting going on (Paramilitary types have to have some sort of 'hobby' now that the Troubles are over  :( ). In January, 3 properties were raided and over 120 dogs removed (mostly bull breeds, Rotties and terriers). One of the properties turned out to be a training ground for dog fighting. Several of the dogs were identified as Pit-bulls and were PTS immediately. Some of the other dogs had been stolen and a few have been reunited with their owners. The rest are in the care of the USPCA and rescue centres across N.Ireland.

Belfast is not a city where you 'grass' on someone lightly. Chances are local people do know who owns these dogs but are far too attached to their kneecaps to dare inform the authorities :(

I was pretty close to this myself yesterday when I thought that I was going to lose Chacha's sister   Why oh why do people have to own illegal out of control dogs?

Aaah, now I'm with you. Yes, she posted that about her pup having an encounter with a pit-bull type. Poor wee lamb :(

That is so very sad! I really hate people this lovely breed for fighting and then they are the ones getting blamed....... don't blame the dog, blame the owner. Pits can be the best family dogs every and my auntie's girl is the sweetest ever. Those 2 only did what they were taught unfortunately. I'd seriously punish the owners for being so unbelievably irresponsible!!

SHame we can't add this link to the thread about that woman who had just acquired a pregnant EBT, probably mated to a pit bull, and was happily going to have the litter and find homes....

That thread immediately sprung to ming when I heard about this incident :( I posted this thread half hoping that she might see it and think about what might happen if she brings these puppies into the world. I have no doubt that her intentions are good but what would potentially become of the pups once they left her care would very much be in the lap of the gods.
