 Help my pup looks like a walking rug LOL
For the past two weeks I have phoned every groomer in my area (15 miles radius) but they all just want to use clippers on him, I wish them to only use thinning scissors or hand strip only. They will not allow me to stay even when I explain about his illness, it seems all prefer for me to leave him.

We groom him every day and I bath him twice a week with the prescribed shampoo his skin and coat are in brilliant condition now. People always compliment us on his coat condition so I think were doing something right. I have purchased grooming books and video's and all the tools to do the job ourselves and tonight I thought I should tidy him up a little and finally he can see better. I trimmed his hair around his eyes, the pads of his feet etc and his undercarriage, he looks ok but I'm a little afraid to go that one step further.

If any Westie owners that use thinning scissors or handstrip could give me advice it would be so much appreciated cause if I don't find a groomer soon we are left with two choices let him be the only walking rug Westie around or get the confidence and try it myself (GOD HELP HIM LOL).

If you are a Westie Groomer or know of one that is in the Herts area that uses thinning scissors or hand strips and will allow me to stay with him , please contact me ASAP please save our little boy cause I know if i attempt to do it he will no longer look like a Westie....

Have you contacted the WHWT club of England. The webmaster there is very good.

I'm training to be a groomer and I'm in north London if that's any good? I can handstrip an American cocker so I imagine a Westie would be the same technique. PM me if any good. Also I could take him to my college in Biggleswade and handstrip him there under supervision if that journey would be any better? :-)

Whatever you do Katt, please please be careful about stripping any areas that are very sore. Stripping won't hurt on skin that is in good condition and if the coat is the right texture but if the area is inflamed or sore you would need to avoid these areas.

Having you been given guidance and help in eliminating the problems which are causing the alergies?

Blue I didn't think about contacting WHWT club I can be such a dizzy so and so some times

His coat texture is very soft due to all the washing we have had to do. Bathing every day and now were washing only twice a week :) . I have been attempting hand stripping myself but in my opinion I'm terrible at it

He is currently having conventional and homeopathic treatment for all his allergies and is doing absolutely amazing. I've got his food sorted and his stomach has settled this has also helped his skin condition. The entire house is either wood or tiled flooring due to his house mite's allergies my partner said he is one expensive puppy LOL but so worth it in our opinion as at one stage we thought he may not be long on this earth but now looks like he will out live us all hehe

Pleased to hear you are going down the right track. Drop the Club a mail and I am sure they may be able to point someone to you.
