I've taken my boys to visit girls in their own homes with no problems at all. For a maiden dog or a dog thats not too confident I wouldn't recommend it - also the same if your bitch tends to guard her property?

I haven't had this happen but do have friends who did this. They couldn't get their GSD bitch in whelp- they even tried different dogs, the vets ruled out any problems with the bitch. Their last attemp they asked the stud dog owner to visit their home for the mating to take place. The bitch had 9 puppies :-) First and last litter though ;-)

last year i boarded the stud for 4 days as my girl came into season whilst they were going away and i didn't want to miss using him ..luckily he is a very placid boy and it was fine we had 2 matings 24hrs apart and pups born as a result

Some dogs will mate wherever they are  , but I think your chances of a successful mating are far better if the bitch is taken to the dog, as is the usual practice.

no i always go to them, they are more confident in a familar place and have more of a chance of a succesful mating if the male is confident and comfortable

An experienced stud dog will mate practically anywhere if he is of stable confident temperament and the bitch is both ready and wlecoming to a certain degree.
Ideally he mates on his own ground, however there are no hard and fast rules to say so.This is more tradition than anything.
However a young inexperienced dog should be given every chance of succeeding properly and that includes being in familiar surroundings he is confident with, with the absolute minimum of people present, especially strangers to him, and obviously with a bitch who is not going to remove his head with one flick of her jaws.
Home ground matings tend to be more successful, but generally, going a bit deeper, off home ground usually means one of several things:
1) The bitch and dog are at the same show/event or whatever, therefore the breeder is more hoping she is ready than actually being sure for the sake of an extra journey down to the stud.
2) Anyone who actively stands their dog at stud learns that its best to get into a routine with the lad, using basically the same rituals and build up to the mating, in the sameplace each time and so on for maximum performance.
3) Anyone who doesn't wish a bitch to visit their house is usually an inexperienced handler who will soon learn with a frequently used dog it is absolutely the way to go for your own mileage and sanity!

The stud dog that i am using is experierced. The stud dog owner asked could the mating take place here instead of at her home. It will be my girl's first time

.... do you know why they asked that? Its none of our business of course but its an odd request for an experienced dog...

She has just moved & did not want to let me down i was worried in case my girk did not take because the mating took place here

....that would be a very logical reason for this. I was just concerned maybe the dog had thrown the towel in on home ground - which sometimes happens! - and they were hoping an away fixture might spark his libedo up again ;-)
I'm sure it will go just fine, and, if it doesn't, it probably wouldn't have at their home either.

... just reading your note again - can I, with tongue in cheek, point out that most women get pregnant in their own beds, so home fixtures for females can be VERY successful ;-) ;-)

Thought you would like to know the mating went very well tried foe 20 mins
congratulations i hope she takes :)

I Have had males visit my bitches in my own home as I don't have transport and no problem.
I have also hosted dogs and bitch several times when a dog I bred was used, as his owner didn't have facilities to have a bitch visit her as she owns another male and no segregation facilities.
Have only failed with a maiden dog to a difficult bitch, and an older male mating two bitches that missed, but he was a faffer, using up his reserves fruitlessly before mangaing to mate late.
