I am looking for some additional advice,maybe sam or tartan tale could help. I am looking to get a bloodhound in the summer. I have researched on the net about the health problems and was talked out of having one ten years ago we hadn't got as much room as now and it was suggested not enough experiance of hounds. Having now owned two bassett hounds or ten years and met bloodhounds at crufts I am now looking or the best way to meet the breed in a more natural setting, any constructive comment would be welcome. as a final thought we also keep rabbits could this be a problem, never has with our other dogs but you never know.

Hi fatgazzer, have you tried contacting the breed club(s)? In my breed, the clubs hold names of members who are happy to have visitors to their homes to see the breed in a home setting etc.

As said before contact the breed club to find if they can put you in contact with members close to you who are willing to show you there dogs. We do this in our breed and have just had contact from someone who want's to come see our breed in the house.
Good luck in your search :)

we are a very nice breed club, both of them are nice in fact. why may i ask where you snubbed?
i'm sure that you are that was the impression that we got from meeting people at crufts on friday. As to why we were snubbed, my wife rang someone for advice (no names no packdrill but see my pm) as we only had owned our first basset for 12 months she was told to "stick to bassets" we did and soon after had our second from rescue. but if nothing else i am tenatious so i will try again

I would imagine that with a young Bassett the person you spoke to thought it was too early to venture into having a second dog let alone a bigger one :D
with hindsight you are probably right about their opinion but my we didn't push how experienced we were with dogs at the time and if I do say so myself i feel that we have much more experience with hounds an their psycology and ready or a bloodhound I'll shut up now as it sounds more and more like a c.v.

I love Bloodhounds - they're absolutely gorgeous but curiously I've never met one that hasn't really ponged!

strangely enough we get a lot of enquiries from baset owners but once they actually get contact with a full size adult bloodhound they realsise how very very different they are & 9 times out of 10 stick to another basset!!
Thanks sam have met bloodhounds in the flesh so to speak though not in a home enviroment don't mind being one of the "one in ten" (shades of UB40

)
I realise that this is not something to be rushed
