Hi, I don't know if I've posted in the right section but Harvey's nose has started to turn brown. Up until about 3 weeks ago it was pure black as were his paddy paws which also seem to be turning brown. He is ruby coloured and just wondered if this is normal?

It can be especially in winter or if the bloodlines have dogs with poor pigment in it
You can give liquid Elderberry & Nettle Extract which helps some dogs

Yep, winter nose - blenheims and rubies suffer from it frequently! I've heard Kelp tablets can also help. Sardines etc are also a good source of vitamin D, which I understand is part of the problem - anyone got any views on whether that can help? Or other things? :-)
Yes vitamin D is very good, I have a girl at present with a winters nose and she usually gets it before her season, she tends to keep it for at least 3 months in some cases. It eventually blackens but do try the vitamin D :-) this can help shorten the length of time. :-)

Is it possible to give a mixture of suppliments e.g both kelp and vit D or just the one? Burns do a seaweed based treat don't they? Wonder if they would help? It doesn't affect health in general does it or is it simply cosmetic? How do people go on when showing if thier dog gets 'winter nose' or is it a no no?
Thanks
Hayley
I do not show if my Cavalier as winter nose but my girls do have plenty of vitamins. I was told by someone to put a bit of black waterproof mascara on their nose before a show but this I would never do, but that is just my opinion.

Apart from being against the rules I would worry the judge would get mascara on her hands!! Also it might react with the dog's skin? :-D

Why not?? I've seen a lot worse!!! Seriously, good for you, I would never do anything like that either!
Unfortunatley I see Yorkies gong in the ring that are supposed to be 6 months old with a full coat!!! Now then, how do you think they manage that???? LOL

Hair extensions?? :-D If so, can one of them get in touch as my Yankee badly needs some!! :-D
I have seen a few dogs in classes they should not be in and when they have won the class and most proberbly the group they apologise, it makes you wonder if they read the rules and regulations before entering their dogs in the first place.
