Hi all

This is a great board I have learned alot from other peoples posts

Just wanted some advice I have recently bought a staffy pup who will be 9 weeks old on Tuesday.  From experience what is the best way to teach him to stop nipping and biting at me....  I know he is just a baby and is teething and has to bite but i have loads of toys I play with him with, but he still prefers biting me and thinks it's a game when I tell him off...  I have to say this is only when he is really excited and alot of the time he will just lick my hands....

Don't want to be a bad owner and want him to be a good trained staffie any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Kirsty

Thanks Jeangenie I have seen this one from another post on here...  have been using these methods I just feel sometimes like i'm constantly telling him off and he just thinks it's a game....  Is he just a bit to young at the minute to understand???

It takes time - basically dogs have to learn not to try to find out about the world that way. They don't have hands to explore with, after all - it's a bit like teaching a toddler 'don't touch!'

What I've found works with mine is to say calmly 'Ah ah, gently' when they get a bit hard, and not allowing games to become too exciting. The calmer and quieter his environment, the less likely he is to get wound up. Give him a few more weeks and you'll see a difference. :)

Thanks again it's good to know there are people out there to give me reassurance....

The OH I think has a part to play in this as he likes to play with him in a different way so when he thinks I'm telling him off it's a game...

Will just have to keep trying I guess
