I've been showing for over 30 years, in a very very small way, so from past experience I think that show entry numbers rise and fall in cycles. Breeds become popular, then somehow fall out of favour, then of course there are several fairly newly recognised breeds.
Certainly presentation is much more important, although not generally quite the way it is in the USA, but in another 10 years could well see a further shift that way. As for professional handlers, I actually think there are fewer now than there used to be.
As in all things, there is good and bad together, in both my breeds there are some fantastic people, some of whom have been extremely generous and kind to me. Then there are also some downright nasty people too and I just give them a wide berth.
