Topic Dog Boards / Health / problems after spaying
- By kiri [gb] Date 12.03.06 13:11 UTC
Hi there,
Just wondering if anybody has had the same problems as me and can give advice.
My dog Kiri aged 1 was spayed on 13th Feb with no problems. At the end of the month we noticed a large hard lump on her shoulder which was removed the day later. It was panniculitis caused by the injection and some trauma? This may happen again and steroids are the only option. She now has a massive swelling at the operation site which has been drained on many occasions and the vet now says to leave it until the fluid is reabsorbed by the body . If anybody out there can help I would be very pleased.

Hi Kiri

Some dogs do react badly.  One of my bitches took a long time to recover from the anaesthetic, had a lump where she'd been injected, and had lots of fluid around the op site for a couple of weeks, which I thought was never going to go. She was absolutely fine after a few weeks - I see it has been quite a long time for your bitch, but hopefully everything will settle down soon.  Good luck!
