Hi, how do you gain points for show merit.? Do puppy group wins count at all??  My pug has had 3 group ones ( adult ) , 2 group two and 3 best of breed, how many points is that??    Do you automatically get best of breed if you dog wins best AV when there are no other dogs of your breed and it is a group system show??  My pug has won best AVNSC TWICE and in our dog paper it said BOB next to his name, he won group on those days as well and so went through to best in show.  Please can someone clarify for me as I am still fairly new to all this, thanks.

CLAIM FOR A SHOW CERTIFICATE OF MERIT
A Kennel Club Show Certificate of Merit (ShCM) will be issued on receipt of an application from the
registered owner at the time of qualification, in respect of a dog that has obtained 25 points at General
and Group Open Shows. A minimum of five points must be won in Group Competition. The scale of
points is as follows:
1 Five points for Best in Show
2 Four points for Single Group Best in Show
3 Group placings will obtain the following points (Multi Group Shows only):
1st - four points, 2nd - three points, 3rd - two points and 4th - one point
(Puppy Group placings do not gain points)
4 One point for Best Any Variety Not Separately Classified
(AVNSC Hound, Gundog etc. winner of overall Best AVNSC)
5 One point for Best of Breed
6 Only points won on after the 1st January 2003 may be counted towards this award
The title "ShCM" may be used after the name of the dog on show entries and in catalogues.

So would my pug have got a point for best AVNSC and a point for BOB at the same time, or is it one or the other??  thanks

Just one point Danny its either Best AVNSC or BOB.  Best AVNSC is the equivalent to BOB when there are no breed classes
