I have just been clearing out my outside pond and I think my dog may have eaten a frog. I am not definate as it could have been a leaf. Should I be worried?? If so, what signs should I look out for??

My understanding is that if it was a frog no harm done, after all the French can't be wrong about everything ;) but if it is a toad they can be harmfull.  Frogs are much rarer (and for conservation reasons you dog really shouldn't be eating them :p) so I suppose the chances of it being a toad are higher but on the other hand they, apparently, have a foul tasting slime covering so it seems unlikely your dog would actually eat it rather than mouth it and drop it.  I understand if they do come into contact with a toad they will salivate a lot and possible be sick so I think you would know if something was amiss and obviously you would contact the vet immediately.

Dont quote me on this but,
I would say the only thing you need to look out for is having a bit of a dicky tummy from a different food.
We eat frogs legs so am sure dogs are able to eat them as well :)
Its toads that are poisonous, well the stuff they extract when threatened is!!
Sorry not much help but I dont think i would worry too much
Lea :)

Well I am quite sure that it was a frog as we had a bucket of at least 9 frogs and only one toad. As the toad is still there then I guess if he did help himself to one then it would have been a frog.
Thanks

Mine have eaten Toad with no ill-effects  Just swallowed it rather than let me have it
It's when they don't eat them, just play with them you have the problems - foaming around the mouth is one pretty alarming sympton

is you dog ok ? i think you should know by now if there is something wrong , reckon they would of played with it if it was a frog or toad , i have know mine to play with a spider or an ant before now before they even try to eat it :eek:i dont think a toad would of been to their liking , but better safe than sorry keep a good eye on them , if in doubt take them to a vet or at least ring.

Yes he is fine. He would not eat his dinner last night and was very quiet but he is back to usual today.
