I have the local paper coming over on Monday as they want to do a bit on Alf before Crufts.  On the phone the guy asked what Alfie would be doing at Crufts, and I really did struggle to explain exactly what a dog show is, sounds silly I know but trying to explain what went on and why was difficult, I told him about breed standards and stuff but it was hard.  I thought maybe I could write a few bits out for him so when he comes over I can give it to him, at least that way he is more likely to get the facts right :rolleyes:

Oh good luck to you!  Be very explicit what you say.
We had our local paper come 3 years running and none of the reports bore any resemblance to anything that was said. In fact the 3rd time was sooo awful that I felt it made us look silly so I refused after that.  I do hope that your reporter is better. :)

this is what I was worried about, I dont want the reporter making a mockery of it which is why I thought if I wrote a bit down then it might explain it a bit better than me stuttering over my words and not saying the right things (not that I usually have a problem - unless ive had too many ribenas ;) )

You could say that each dog is judged against the breed standard - and that the standards were drawn up around the suitability of a dog to perform a certain task.  They look that way because they were bred to do a certain job.  I'd emphasise soundness and balance too.  Trouble is you don't want to get too technical.  I'm quite lucky in as much as the only bit I've been asked to do was for the Crufts TV program a couple of years ago so I had a better chance of them getting it right ;) :D
