someone who lives across from me went to see a litter of rottweiler pups, they was 3 weeks at the time, anyway they payed for the pup they picked there and then, they collected her last week 7 weeks old, i saw the pup and i was in shock she looks very small , so i ask how much she waighed they said  6 pound .8 oz,she looks very small boned to me,they said she looks the same size as she was when they first seen her, they had a vet look at her but he said she is ok, but i would have thought she would be bigger, i have seen bigger bc pups at that age, both the mum and dad to the pups was huge, as they shown me a picture, they are not sure now if it was the pup they picked or not, and in a week she has put on 4oz, not sure what it should be but it dont sound alot to me,anyones thoughts would be welcome.

sounds like the runt of the litter to me. how did they compare in size to the brothers and sisters? 3 weeks is really much to early to choose a pup which is why most breeders dont let people choose till about 6 weeks. i know a small rottie where i live and he was always small and still is. height wise his ok but he doesnt have any build or weight to him. compared with another rottie we see there that weighs about 10 stone and looks like the dog in the omen, he is tiny. it could be bad breeding.

i suppose its hard to say. i got my pup lupin at 6 weeks old and she was very small. she is now 5 months old at 18 inches to her shoulder. some dogs just grow at diffrent rates i suppose.

Well if one of my Elkhound pups (adult bitch weight about 43 pounds) weighed that much at 7 weeks I would consider the pup small.

In my breed on average I would be looking at about 8-9 pounds at 7 weeks and 9-11pounds at 8 weeks.  They should be gaining at least a pound to 2 pounds a weeks at his age.

Was the litter very large as then pups may be a bit smaller but would catch up and syhoudl be about average by about 4 months.

Sounds very poor weight gain since they had the pup.

Just a though; What about worming? The weight of this pup is about half the normal weight of my breed, and Rottie-pups are usually sturdier than RRs.

hi, they have wormed her they got the wormer from the vets, its strange as the pup looks all in proportion, there was 10 in the litter, she dont eat her food fast , as if she is hungary, and to look at her she looks healthy but like i say tiny, she looks at the mo as if she will be no bigger than a cocker spaniel, they are very upset over it, as i would be if i was them, her legs are very small in width, she is a nice pup but a shame about her size,

Are they planning to show her? Only otherwise I'm not sure why her size is so important provided she's healthy in all other respects. Plus she may be very small now but at 3 weeks it's quite difficult to predict her adult size I'd have thought. There's always the possibility that they haven't bought a Rottie at all, mind so have they seen both parents or just seen a picture of the father?

She is already 7 weeks and at home with the new owners.

Do you think it could be a Dwarf.
I have seen 2 Rotties with Dwarfism. One of which was on the Paul O'Grady show.
Probably not but just a thought :)

yes they did see mum and dad, well thats what they told them, the size is bothering them, as she was not cheap and they are worried, but then i would be if she was my pup.

i never thought about a dwarf, do they have to do lots of tests on them, i suppose she could be one ,as you do get them.
