Hello,
My other half has bought us an indoor fruit tree/plant. No idea why but he thought that it looked good and the fruit might be edible. The card on it says that it is a Citrus Calamondino. Does anybody know how to care for these??? My questions are:
1) Are the fruits edible??
2) Should I keep the dog away - he is showing interest but that might just be because it is new.
3) When do you know the fruits are ready??
I am not green fingered in any way
Why is it that I am left caring for the plant that he has bought on a wim?? How typical!!

Hi Geeky,

Calamondins do indeed have edible fruit - however - they're very bitter.  They do go in cakes in place of orange or lemon rind very well :)  Also they can be very thinly sliced and we have them with duck which is very yummy indeed!!

Yes I'd keep your dogs away from them as anything with a fruit can be irresistable to dogs.  I'd keep them in a large pot myself.

The fruits are ready when they're a vibrant orange colour.

Have fun!

Thanks Surannon. No doubt my other half will be delighted about the "with duck" recipe - he likes to experment with food.
