Topic Dog Boards / General / Anyone here work for RSPCA-dog being sold on Ebay
- By NannyOgg [gb] Date 25.02.06 19:59 UTC Edited 25.02.06 20:06 UTC
I came across this on Ebay:

female ***** named kiara 5 months old fully vaccinated, very good with children house trained for sale due to allergy, sold as a pet not for a guard dog so there will be no papers

cash only

I have reported this to Ebay, but I want it reported to the RSPCA as well, as I find this very concerning that a 5 month old should be being sold for cash via Ebay. I have tried to call the RSPCA but got sent on an endless string of 'please press this number' and couldn't get to speak to anyone (I thought they could act as a phone number has been included, with a local dialling code, not a mobile number, so you can find an address etc.). This absolutely makes me rage, I think it is disgusting. What about handing the dog into a shelter, why try and trade it for cash in the most disgusting way.

I think this dog needs help because it could end up being palmed off on anyone.

By all means report to the RSPCA but please delete the details from your post as you are just doing more advertising for them.  It is enough to report it to Ebay, it is against their rules and they will get round to removing it provided they don't get bogged down dealing with hundreds of reports about it ;)
PS Try emailing the RSPCA you can send them the details

I'm not sure the RSPCA would act - there is no cruelty involved and really, its no worse than advertising it in the paper (which is bad enough!).

I would just put it down to experience and report it to Ebay.

I think you are right Carla, no matter what we think of them the only thing being infringed here is Ebay terms.

I'm sure ebay will remove it very soon, a while ago i was looking for a parrot cage on ebay and the way that the people were getting round the fact that you are not you are not allowed to sell animals was that they were selling a parrot cage with free parrot:mad:
i did see on here a few weeks ago that ebay were going to start selling animals:eek:

Ebay actually asked its members about the idea to sell animals, and as the great majority were so much against it, and they got such a huge response, they decided not to do it. :)

its against ebays terms to sell dogs so report it to them. it is nothing to do with rspca as its perfectly legal to sell or auction puppies.

I found a Weimaraner dog being advertised on Ebay last year and was horrified.  The listing was removed within an hour but I couldn't help worrying about the future of a dog belonging to someone who had put him up for auction on Ebay.  I managed to find out an email address and emailed the owner.  She rang me and during our conversation she said she wanted to make sure he went to a good a home. I pointed out that Ebay was hardly the place where you could vet potential owners.  To cut a long story short, we were in the car the next morning, drove a couple of hundred miles and bought him for £400.  Anything to get him away from there. He was a nightmare initially - he had been kept in a shed in the garden, was frightened of everything and bit my husband on several occasions during the first couple of weeks (drawing blood more than once) and was one very stressed dog.  He has steadily improved over the last 5 months, but I dread what would have happened to him had we not 'rescued' him.

WOW Louise ...credit to you and your husband for being such  caring people sounds like you took on very sad case but at least he has a lovely caring home with you and in time hopefully he will settle and feel secure.

Dont you just want to shake these people..

Well done Louise - I am in awe of all you people who take on these poor rescue dogs - I have enough trouble with my pedigree puppy idiots bought correctly from breeders!!

I got banned from here as a result of trying to post this topic (more than one, so my fault, I got trigger happy with the 'post' button in my rage at seeing this on Ebay). I did report this to ebay, but the listing was still up three hours later. I then tried to call the RSPCA but got nowhere so I reported it to German Shepherd rescue who were absolutely brilliant. They contacted ebay, and the listing was down by the next morning (after this guy had had a whole day of advertising and had even had a bid from the dog (oh, and he was selling household goods along with the dog like tv's etc, so as well as breaking Ebays own rules I think this is a moral issue here too regarding selling living things as if they are a household commodity). German Shepherd rescue contacted the seller, and offerred to help him rehome the dog. The situation was that at 5 months old, the puppy was being rehomed because the guy's new girlfriend's child had an allergy to her. The owner has agreed to rehome the puppy through german shepherd rescue, and so now this puppy with go to a home that has been vetted, with people that will offer a stable environment with love and attention, instead of going to the highest bidder which doesn't equate to the best home, the best owners or the best care.

ive complained to ebay before ,i dont think they take much notice unless lots of people complain regards dawn
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.02.06 11:39 UTC
The more complaints they have, the longer it takes them to deal with things. ;) If they receive 100 complaints about the same item, it'll be removed when they've checked out the first complaint, but there will be 99 (now pointless) complaints that will all take time to be read, slowing down the system, meaning other offending items stay up longer ...

oh sorry  regards dawn

No problem. :)

Wow, good for you!!
You should be very proud of yourselves.
I've not been on the boards for ages and it's people like you that make it worthwhile coming back again,
Sharon
