Try Fossedata or Higham press for show dates etc. :)

A visit to Crufts on working day (thursday) would certainly give you soem ideas and there are usually breed club stands with information of local clubs and training classes for showing.
thanks very much for your help and your answers

You'd probably be better joining a local ringcraft class first. You can get details of training clubs here <a class='url' href='
http://www.dogclub.co.uk/regions/index.php'>http://www.dogclub.co.uk/regions/index.php</a> or let us know were you are and someone could probaly suggest a local club :) As Brainless suggested it would be great if you could visit crufts to talk to other gsd folk and gain tips.

I think that's the best way to go about it...or even join the Breed clubs and try to get an impartial opinion of your doggie??? I'm NOT saying they aren't show quality, because I haven't seen the dog! But sadly I see some misguided people at shows whose dogs def AREN'T of quality and they waste an awful lot of money! If your dog isn't of quality, keep them as the perfect doggie they are and if you really want to get into showing then invest a LOT of time investigatng the Breed and attending shows to see the top dogs. Decide what breed and type you like, find a reputable breeder and order a pup...sometimes you can wait upto 2 years for a decent doggie. So that's given you some food for thought!! All the best, Dawn X
she comes off good show parents her father wasimmo vom mons tabor and her mother is ferncreest evita at dorjontal dont know if you have heard of them they call the breaders john and dot they show theres and john is a juge at shows her 18 month half sister has already won a few cc any way we will just have a look and see and if we dont think she will do any thing we wont bother we will still love her we have had other dogs and not show them but we just thought we might give it a go thanks for your advice will keep it in mind Ann

I would suggest that you take her to the breeders at some time and ask their opinion. They should be able to tell you if she is worthy of showing. There is an old adage 'Show Champions don't always produce Show Champions'. There is so much competition in the show ring that 'novices' get really fed up when they don't win so therefore you need to know whether she is of a show quality before you enter 'the Lions Den' (only joking). The show scene is absolutely great, plenty of nice people out there, but you can easily be disheartened if you are being thrown out on a regular basis. Also it is no use complaining about being thrown out if you don't know whether she is of good quality. A lot of money can be wasted on entry fees and petrol otherwise.
yes i know what you are saying just because she is bread of good parent does not mean she will be any good we had a bitch like that her parent hips score was a 5-4 we had her hips done and it some thing 20- 10 so of course we never bred of her she made a good pet what happened when we bought ELsa thats her name we booked her before the pups were born and some of the pups died about three of them so the one they had pick out they sold to us because we were the first to book they said she was show materail like i said there is a show in huddesfield on the 8th of july we will go and have a look talk to some ppl and just see how it goes if we think its worth doing we will if not its not the end of the world she is a lovely dog friendly great with ppl and dogs and we love her to bits they have breed again and keept one of the pups from that litter i could ask the breader but once you get on the phone you cant get off and she tends to go of the subject you are talking about thank you for taking the time to answer as we dont know about showing it all use full information Ann

Just a word of caution having looking at whose judging the show at Huddersfield I think you will find it is an"Aslsatian/English"judge & with your bitches breeding I would think she will not be of the same type & the showing styles are very different-ie dogs stacked & shown on tight very fine chokers & not gaited very much as oppsed to dogs being shown on dead link gaiting collars, stacked but only lightly held & of course gaited extensiverly(I once spent 4 1/2 hours gaiting my dog in theee classes(which he won BTW))
West Yorkshire GSD club hold shows for the"International"type & sometimes have German/foreign judges at their Champ shows
Just thought I would give you a heads up as you may find you get some shall I saw less than enthusiatic opinions on your bitch at Huddersfield
iam not going to show her just to look you could be right her father was german brought over special to stud i have phone no for west yorkshire will give them a ring and find out if they have a list of dates iwe could go to Ann

LOL I just wated to warn you as you may be quite shpcked at the dogs I was at the UK club show on sunday(only for the obedience must add) I was really shocked at the dogs as they weren't the best of movers & some temperaments were dubious to say the least. I forgot how different the dyed in the wool "Alsatianist"like their dogs to be  At least my cavaler wasn't attacked by one this time !
West Yorks have a show on 26th March & their training details are here
http://www.westyorkshiregsdclub.co.uk/adverts.php Their show is in Huddersfield as well but not the same place as the BAGSD show
thanks will have a look i know some like thm really light and some like them dark she is black and gold really your dog got attacked my god you wouldnet have thought that any way thanks again

Most "International"GSDs are black & gold & the brighter the gold the better. Me I prefer sable or all black ;)
It was a good job it was JD as he isn't fazed by anything including GSDs being brought up with them. What was concerning was that the dog was muzzled & later won it's class & was up for consideration for the CC. The owner never apologised saying my 15 lb dog had "frightened"her very large GSD !
I have just had a look at the breeding behind your bitch. She is a german girl, and if you wished to show her I would advise you only to take her to GSD breed shows (both open and champ, unless you know that a general champ show judge likes this type). This type of GSD is 9 times out of 10 handled by a handler, and you will need to pay them for this service. In a german ring you start with you usually start with an individual assessment. This involves the dog having its teeth looked at, and then been stood. Your dog will have to get use to being lifted up and dropped (by a stranger), and its hind legs being pulled out, whilst not moving forwards as you call to it (you must be out of sight). Although some handlers will try and allow the dog to free stand whilst you call it. It will then be asked to walk away and then towards the judge. The judge will then ask for it to go around the ring, once at a slower pace and then again at a fast pace. The dog must learn to pull out and not dig in. You must learn where you should be and when you should call your dog as it goes around the ring. After all of the individuals are done all of the dogs will be stood in a line. They will then go around as a group. The dog leading is usually the winner, etc.
Competition in bitches is very high, and the classes are usually very large.
I would advise you to go to the Wakefield GSD club to learn how to handle your dog. They have german judges there, and they will tell you how much show potential your dog has. If you dog does not have much show potential then you can still have fun with her, and you can learn how she is to be taught and handled for when you catch the bug and for when you decide to get your next one ;-)
I will also add a pedigree full of red does not guarantee nothing unless each breeding has been chosen in an attempt to correct a bitches faults. I know of one extremely successful dog that has not done too well in producing himself. He has some beautiful qualities, and he has produced quite the opposite of these qualities to a lot of his puppies ;-)
I will also add I am not saying that I agree with these showing practices, but if you are in a ring full of people doing this then you will be advised by other breeders (who are present there) that there is no point giving yourself an additional disadvantage by not copying. With this type this is the sort of ring you will be in ;-)
