Hi. My CKCS pup is now 6 months old. After struggling to find a food that he will eat and that also agrees with his tummy, I now feed Naturediet and JWB. Up until last week I was feeding him 3 meals per day but I have now cut down to 2 meals am and pm and feed the adult varieties instead of puppy. Over the past few days, he has turned his nose up at his breakfast so I have had to bin it after 20 mins or so but then he appears hungry once the food has dissapeared and paces up and down where his food dish usually is - it doesn't matter what time in the morning I feed him, I've tried 8am, 9am, 10am and 11am he has a sniff and a nibble then turns his nose up:confused: I was feeding 1/4 pack of naturediet with a handful of JWB - 25g per meal.
My new plan is to put 50g of JWB down in the morning so that he can pick at these as he pleases if he's hungry throughout the day and then feed 1/2 pack of naturediet in the evening - he ALWAYS eats his evening meal. I don't like the idea of feeding him just once a day and wouldn't like to think he's going hungry throughout the day.

Hi Hayley, I don't think it's a good idea at all to leave food down all day. I just encourages the dog to be more picky than he already is. You were doing the right thing already. Leave it down for 15-20 minutes, then take it away, no messing about, if he's hungry, good. He'll eat it next time he's offered if that's the case. Keep at it, don't let him get the upper hand, you are in charge, he eats when you say so.

Sorry if that sounds harsh, it's not really, but he must get the message, eat it or lose it.

I know that your right but I worry beacause he is quite slim and don't want him to lose any more weight. How about if I offer him his first meal around 1pm and then his next at around 7ish? Don't really want to keep trying him with fresh meals at different times of the day for days on end because I feel that naturediet is too expensive to throw in the bin......that sounds really tight fisted of me doesn't it:eek:

just chuck his bowl in the fridge and offer the same back at the next meal time :)
