Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / so proud

I have to brag about this as i am so proud, took merlin up the field tonight and he was running around off lead as usual, when a lady came up with a staffie on lead wearing a muzzle. I called merlin to me and he came and the lady shouted that there was no need to worry as the dog was friendly so i let merlin off and he bounded over to say hi. Then the lady shouted that she had muzzled her because she was in season and doesnt like it if dogs mount her  My entire male beagle has already got to her and was sniffing her bits getting very excited. I called him back and he didnt respond and i thought here we go, i called him again as i was jogging to get to him and he looked at me so i stopped and called him and he came back bless him. As many of you know beagles have a terrible obedience rating and i have boasted for a few months now how well he was doing. This was the icing on the cake, mind you i put him on lead and he was desperate to get back. How proud am i, we paid a visit to the pet shop on the way back with me telling him how good he was all the way and he had a new toy and a bone. just thought id share it with you.

Yay for Merlin! Having breeds that 'don't do' recall, I know how impressive that is.

Can't imaginee Staff cross beagles

Hey Brainless, how about them being the latest designer breed - Baffles! :D

The warm and happy feeling when your dog makes you proud, is worth all the training and "not so good" times ;-)
Well done to you and Merlin!

The designer breed would definately be called a beaffie. Merlin is our first dog and when he was a pup i didnt know what had hit me. I was constantly on here checking if all the naughty pup things he was doing was normal and pleading someone advise me on this and to whether he would grow out of it.I got a lot of good advise and got a trainer for me as i needed training. Then over the year he has had minor relapses and i have posted, but this was fantastic. I think when i put his lead on him he was sorry he came but it didnt affect todays behaiviour, his recall was really good. Thanks everyone, i may have a glass of wine tonight actually because until today it didnt figure that i should be proud of me aswell. Mind you i phoned loads of people and told them, arent we daft about our dogs
