I am on laptop at the mo as my desktop is poorly, could do with some help.
It was ok sun night but monday morning I can only use outlook express and send/receive e mails. When the browser loads up, just as the green bars fill at the bottom tool bar the screen crashes. I get the option to send error report to MS but this too crashes.Whn the browser tries to load the hard drive makes a noise like a cd trying to load.
I get an error message saying
iexplore.exe-application error
The installation at Ox7470b439 referenced memory at Ox7470b439. The memory could not be read.
Click ok to terminate program.

I took PC to repair shop who plugged it in and found nothing wrong. brought it back home and exactly same thing happened.
We have a wireless system here with a router and all other 5 PCs are working absolutely fine. Tried asking freeserve for tec support and got some call centre who spent 20 minutes at 50p minute and all they came up with was maybe spyware (have ad aware installed) and to ask shop agaain for advice. Shop says if pc is ok at their end they cant help as is working with them they cant make diagnosis. any offers???

Ok, had a bit of a look around, the general advice is virus scan, adware/spyware scan, have you got any toolbars installed eg, yahoo, google, etc? if so uninstall them (yahoo toolbar is spyware anyway :( ), check windows update and make sure you have any updates or IE fixes/patches, try a system restore to when you remember it not coming up with this error.
Also, you could have a look at thismicrosoft article.
If none of this works let me know, i'll see what else I can find out :)

Thanks,  no toolbars as you suggested, have done both scans, have tried system restore and still the same. It just seems so odd that the pc worked when on test at shop. All the other pc in house are ok and ru off same wireless system.
Looked at the link but the numbers are different so presumably means a different error. Dont know what step to take next???

hmmm its a strange one  Are you running xp? If so have you tried repairing or reinstalling internet explorer? Still doesn't explain why it works ok at the shop though and not at home. (Unless of course, shop isn't really testing it, you know what they're like sometimes  )
Check task manager that you only have one instance of IEXPLORE.EXE running as this can cause it to crash.
I think its going to be process of ellimination with it and if all else fails a reformat :(

Seeing that all your other pcs are working i would swap the tower with another and try it with your current set up. If it works fine then something in your tower could be wrong. Another reason why its crashing is memory ie do you have enough installed to work your programs remembering that some programs run in the background and use it all the time. If you dont have a virus and your antivirus and firewall are upto date and updated regularly it could be this. To find out how much is installed (dont know if ya do ;) ) go to programs click all programs/accessories/system tools/system information and look at total physical memory, ideally you should be running at 256 but 512 is much better, although 128 is ok you are limited and risk the system crashing if a lot programs are running simutanesly

Edited to say if hard drive is making an awful racket this can point to it being fried - happened to mine did it on start up at first and crashed alot then went bang  so i brought a new tower as it needed upgrading anyway :D

Update
Son has installed mozilla making it possible for me to connect to intrnet that way without it crashing. I am also encountering another prob now in that when I load up my photos from smart card onto sans disk, once I click on photo the program crashes again, jut as it did with iexplorer. Do you reckon I have avirus
