Callia - 14 month old Briard "she devil" has been developing her recent habit very nicely.

Whenever I walk into a room that she is in, she frantically rubs her face up and down my legs, a bit like a cat really  She also does it when we're playing or when other family members come into the room that her and I are already in on our own.

The other trick that she has perfected is to barge her head through my legs, up into my crotch one way, virtually lifting me off my feet and then barging back through the way she has come. This would go on eternally if given half the chance  But I do have to eventually call a halt to it because I end up bruised

My older boy does nudge me gently in the most private of places and then proceed to walk through my legs but he does it in a far more polite way ;)

Its the frantic face rubbing that's perplexing me? Monsterman has never done it. I'm wondering if this is a breed trait as my Dad's Briard does the face rubbing, but again, only on him and very occasionally with me.

My theories are: Scenting, she likes to put her smell on me, or it just feels good, particularly having a very hairy face.

Any theories on this would at least help me to understand this latest habit. And might save me having change my clothes every time I want to go out  :D

Lol, sounds just like my minx, that's exactly what she does, especially on a walk. She sneaks up behind you, barges her head in-between your legs, lifts you up almost off you feet, runs off smirking and then does it again.  :-D And she'll walk up and down, just like a cat, rubbing her head on you.  Many times; we've said she was a cat in a previous life, lol.

She has a particular place on the side of her head that makes her practically melt if you massage it.  Absolutely loves head massages.  My lad on the other head plonks his bum straight into your legs if you are sitting down and turns and looks at you waiting for a bum scratch.   Yes, they have us well trained, lol :-D

I don't have the same breed, but mine do similar things.
Like the crotch thing and they DO knock you over, and
end up practicaly sitting on them, they spin out from under you, and
jump all over you when your on the floor

Don't you just love'em

But i bet you'd never be without them :-)

My goldie has similar traits, i like to think it's his way of getting close to me, but there is proably some other disturbing reason :).

Hiya, I rehomed an ex police dog.  When out on a walk we met the local female Inspector (Police) on duty and in uniform.
My GSD as a way of 'greeting' and without hesitation rammed his muzzle up where no dog should go !
All rather embarrasing for us both, just goes to show that dogs don't share human etiquate.
Glad to say that he did not get arrested despite the red face on the Inspector.
Dogs are fun but can embarass us all at the most unexpected moments  :)

Hi honey,  I'm HOME :D

Ya'll ready for this?????

I've read and re-read your post and it all sounds pretty normal to me    The problem is .... :P :P :P Nope, can't see one - their continental cousins are just the same :D

Well that's alright then :D

Not being pedantic here as if I ever would be...me? NEVER

But getting back to  the main question, WHY? Go on, you know you wanna educate me :D :D

Or perhaps you think that I'm actually more intelligent than I am  :D

Woops, specialist trainer extraordinaire hat on!

The WHY? element is soooo easy   Because THEY CAN :D

Feeling better now?  Of course you are :P

my dog rubs her face on me if she has gooey eyes, i have to wipe them several times a day- vet told me there was nothing wrong with them! she does it if they are itchy.

mine does the frantic face rubbing first thing in the morning and if he hasnt seen you for a while, along with whinging and yodelling. i assume hes really happy and wants to be affectionate. maybe hes just softening me up before going in for the kill!!

My friend's old male shar-pei has had this particular habit since he was a pup. He goes and has a drink, walks over to you, looks you in the eye with a look of deep love and affection... then uses your knee as a napkin to dry his mouth and nonchalantly walks off! Ick!

My old deerhound lady's favourite way of showing affection is to put her paws on my shoulders and ever so gently to grasp my lower jaw in her jaws. Fortunately she doesn't do it to anyone except family!
