Hi there,

I'd some advice really, we are thinking of taking Kobi in to be 'done' soon :eek:and was wondering if I should get him hip scored too? He obviously is not going to be bred from but there's a part of me that wants to know what to expect in the future, also I thought the information would be good to give to his breeders. What does everyone think?

Some of my pet puppy owners have and are going to have their dogs done even though they aren't going to breed from them.  Due to having a rare breed this is quite handy and if your dogs going to be under a GA anyway I think it's worthwhile.

I agree with SWD, Maddie can never be bred from but I had her hips/elbows done when she had to go under GA anyway (good score too).  And she will continue to have yearly eye tests. If nothing else it gives the breeder more of an idea of the litter she bred, if you see what I mean?

If he is under GA then yes I would get it done. It all helps to go towards giving a better picture of the Breed avg score so the more Labs that are scored the better !

It will also give you peace of mind that there is no under lying problem and if there is then it will give you chance to start taking preventative measures to lessen any problems :)

OK thankyou I will get him hip scored, there is a part of me that would like to live in blissful ignorance though! Does anyone know how much (approx) we should be paying for hip scoring as we have been ripped off so many times by our vets in the past.
