Hi
Last summer some of you may remember that my dog was attacked by an adult male weim whilst at gundog training. It took a few days for him to feel confident again around dogs he knew and a little (but not much) longer for him to be confident meeting strange dogs again. I then introduced him to a weim puppy, then a bitch and then a neutered dog in a one on one situation. I THOUGHT everything was okay. Today I have been gundog training for the first time with the Weim Association and the boy just froze. Wouldn't leave my side to hunt etc etc. At the end we took him into another field with a viszla that was there and did a bit of dummy work and he was his usual self again.
So....I think I need to do more work outdoors with other dogs. (Our usual weekly basic obedience training class is indoors at this time of year and he has known the dogs there for 18 months or more.) In particular, I need to do more work with Weims. So, if anyone has a sociable friendly Weim they wouldn't mind some company with walking on the odd occasion, I would be pleased to hear from you. I live in Warwickshire, but am prepared to travel for the odd occasion to Leicestershire, West Mids, Northants or North Oxon. My dog is not aggressive - all he did today was become velcro dog and not leave my side - even in a high distraction environment.
I also today learnt more about the dog that was involved in the attack on my chap last year......apparently, bless him, he was kept on a farm for the first 2 years of his life and NEVER met another dog (or so the story goes.) He was then taken on a shoot with devastating consequences. He was then taken training. I really do wonder at people some times.
