Topic Dog Boards / General / giving my girl a bath after 1st season

I was just wondering, when you give your bitch a bath after her first season to clean her up and get rid of the smell and all, do you have to use a particular shampoo. To put it delicately, I was worried about using any shampoo in case it is too strong to use on the senstive area between the legs. On the two occasions we have had to bath her previously, I have used shampoo from Lush (where I work) being Godiva and Assissi baby shampoo. Both have a sodium laurel sulphate base with essential oils or plant/nut oils to condition in the case of the Godiva. I know this probably sounds like a weird question, but I was not sure if you have to use something particular or not.

Anyway, whatever happens she will inevitablly squeel the house down as if we are killing her as soon as she sees the shower go on.... !

Lush stuff is lovely :) but I tend to stick to dog shampoos as I believe their Ph is different.  I don't think you have to worry about an after season wash in general as you always have to wash well around the peewee areas anyway, don't you :)

I tend to stick with dog shampoos - if I had to use a human one I'd use a baby shampoo or other very mild one. An all-over wash is a good idea because she'll no doubt have dripped on her bedding and lain on the damp area, turning round several times in the night, so the scent could be on the hair of her neck or shoulders, or anywhere. Her bedding will need a thorough wash at the same time. :)

Thank god our new tumble dryer is coming tomorrow. She has a lot of bedding in need of a thorough clean at the end of the month!
Thanks for the advice, I will get a specific dog shampoo.

Doesn't working in Lush give you a headache?  It gives me one just walking past as the smell is so strong

It takes about two weeks for you to get over the smell. During that two weeks when i started I did get headaches, but after that your nose kind of shuts down, and you don't smell anything anymore. To smell anything you have to hold it really close to your nose. I only notice the smell now when I am at home and my work clothes smell of Lush, which is nice, as does my hair. It definitely has its benefits - I always smell better when I get home than I did going in to work!

I suppose you must get used to it.  I just wonder how many people get put off going in the shop with it, I know I do.

Better to bring that smell home then the one you must get working in a fish and chip shop. ;)
