Topic Dog Boards / General / What accommodation for Crufts?
- By Missthing [gb] Date 08.02.06 16:52 UTC
I'm just intrigued what people showing multiple dogs over several days actually do for accommodation. Do you all have RVs? Camp out in car parks? Have understanding friends? Take advantage of the (too) numerous, competitively-priced (HA!) hotels that Brum abounds in?  Or what??

We find it difficult to get holiday accommodation with only two dogs; how you manage with more in a city like ours (this is Muttsinbrum writing) boggles the mind.

So spill the beans...how do you all manage?

When I was showing on two days I used to travel up and back each day.  My dogs don't like being away from their home comforts too much ;).  The only show I stay overnight for is SKC.

Luckily don't live too far away! :)  only about hour n half to 2 hrs drive.  Last we we went up and back every day.  This year we are going 3 out of 4 days.

As we're coming down from the North of Scotland, we have no choice but to stay in a Travel Lodge.  Don't think it's fair that they charge £10 per dog extra though!!

The holiday inns don't charge extra for dogs ;) we have booked one about 18 miles away from the NEC at the normal rate anything nearer and they bumped the price up.

Is it Crufts time again already?

When is it on?  (Not because I would ever go, but I'm an avid tv viewer!)

For Crufts we stay in the Holiday Inn Express at the NEC - they don't seem to mind how many dogs you have with you - the car park and garden in the early morning are full of dogs out for  a quick stroll :)  They are very doggy friendly all around, and don't mind dogs in the bar area, although last year a couple of people eating breakfast did complain about dogs in the cafe area!  You have to book very early to get in, although you can get some last minute cancellations too.  A taxi across to the halls cost about the same as the car park for the day, and saves all the walking!

We're staying there as well for 2 days over Crufts, it's the first time.
Are there places where you can get take out meals etc?  We don't fancy leaving JJ in the room for to long, he'd probably be ok but he's not used to be left all alone especially seen as our other dog won't be with us.

We are there on the Wednesday night.

Are there bar snacks available in the evening Gwen?
- By gwen [gb] Date 08.02.06 21:24 UTC
Hi again,  Reception have a collection of takeaway menus from places which deliver to the hotel, and you can pick up plates and cutlery from the breakfast room area, and either take the food back to your room, eat in the bar or use the tables in the breakfast room.  Alternatively, there is a pub right beside it which serves typical pub restaurant stuff - be warned, can get very busy over crufts time! It is a very doggy place over Crufts time, very few non dog folk seem to be there, although the few that are tend to look a bit bemused at all the canines walking in and out of the lobby at all hours!

Thanks Gwen, that was really useful.

Ditto - we stay there each year for LKA and Crufts, always night before and night after the day our breed's on.   Can't recommend it highly enough.  Very dog friendly and certainly saves getting up at the crack of dawn to fight the Birmingham rush hour.

regards, Teri

Thanks for all your info, it's really helpful to know things before you go.  I'm glad we picked the hotel now, it sounds great!. We were looking at others but settled on this one for some reason.  Considering we booked it months ago it's come round really quick!

The express holiday inn has been fully booked for quite some time we stayed in it for the LKA and when we tried that same week when we got back it was full :(

Yes, it gets booked very early, I think I booked last summer!  However, closer to the date you often find cancellations - I managed to get a room for friends for last years Cruft's just the week before.  Have jsut had good news yesterday that I can acutally go for 3 days, as my kennel helps can stay overnight Friday & Staurday, so I will be there both nights.  Plesed that I get 1 night free too, as have been saving up by club points!
