Just got Rjj's CL result back & he is normal which means he isn't a carrier(He he was a sufferer he would probably be dead by now anyway) Phew one down & now waiting for the other

On paper he has a 1% of being a carrier for both so have my fingers crossed for the CEA result

The suspense is agony

Good & bad for the CEA he's a carrier but not affected or a go right Not bothered about him being used at stud as that isn't what he was given to me for He's my best friend & an ace little dog who keeps me sane by driving me mad ;)

Yep as he was clear as a puppy he could have been used unknowingly on a carrier in the past & produced sufferers The DNA test prevents this now. I've stored some samples with them for the PRA test when it arrives & it will of course

He doesn't care of course & it doesn't affect his life one bit

And of course if he turns out such a super boy that he is wnated to be used he still can be on clear bitches, so the bloodlines don't go to waste, and pups can only be clear or carrier.

Absolutely which is how the test should be used Blwch Hemp(sp)was a superb working dog but a carrier so was lost for years as an active stud. The ISDS have shown sense & now any carriers or clears by him can be registered late without penalty so his lines are not lost forever.Sadly it came just after he died but there are a good few of his offspring that are at the worse carriers out there

Hard luck MM.  As Satincollie says, not the end of the world now we have the tests.

We nearly lost some of our really good working lines because of the glaucoma in our breed, but we have since found out that our results are very different to many of the other breeds so we can now use affected's with clears and end up with either clears or very low scoring dogs that will never get glaucoma.

It is amazing what they can do and find out these days and I hope that at some time in my lifetime that many of the illnesses etc. will be able to be tested via DNA.

My dog himself is not affected & of course CL is more dangerous for a dog-as sufferers die-than CEA & he will never develop either

What I would love is DNA tests for the various forms of SHM that would be brilliant. Only a matter of time as they are mapping the complete Cavalier Genome right now

Wish we could get the PRA one for our bred, as it would mean being able to use more dogs without worrying, the same for Glaucoma.

The DNA test I would most like to see developed would be for epilepsy. I don't have personal experience of this but do know how heartbraking it can be. Hopefully PRA won't be too long for all breeds.

knowledge is power, at least you know, & if you do decide to use him it will be fine to put him to a clear bitch. God this DNA testing does make life much easier.
