Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Help please - bitch in season
- By Monsterfriend [gb] Date 30.01.06 17:31 UTC
My 2 year old bitch has just started swelling up round the rear, but has not started bleeding yet.  A male dog we know has suddenly become very interested in her.  Is she "in danger" of being mated with immediately?  How long will unwanted mating be a risK?  When will she be safe to trust again?  Any help much appreciated.  Puppies not wanted just now!

If dogs are finding her attractive then yes, she's in danger of being mated. She may be one of the bitches who keep themselves very clean so you may not notice much blood. Keep her away from other dogs for at least 21 days.

Thanks Jeangenie
I've spoken to the vet and he can inject her with something to stop the season from happening, so I think I'll whisk her off there first thing tomorrow and do that.

I would suggest you do a little research first - try having a look at previous threads on this subject.

Don't give her that injection.  Make sure that no dogs can get at her.  Surely this is possible for the next 4 weeks, it's not that hard a task?

when my girl goes into season i rarely see blood because she is very clean. i wouldnt give the injection i would just seperate keep her in one room and him in another and dont let them out togeather to go to the toilet or for play
