Well it is on here, lol..

Yesterday morning 8:30am just getting in from a 16hr shift, pull into garden let dogs out of van and into their enclosure..decide as its a nice dry morning to leave beloved babies outside so i can get the house into some order..whilst doin all this can hear a yapping around somewhere, not taking much notice as live near lots of farmers with working dogs..

1/2hr passes, yapping still goin on,so i decide to go and investigate, can c into next doors garden, and there in front of me is a dobey bitch,i think she was feeling a bit lonely as she was having a good old go at waking all of neighbourhood up...knowing it wasnt neighbours as they not to keen on pooches & have cats, called out to her..poor little thing, was well kicking off, through experience could tell this was fear related..Rite at this point u r all probably thinking well she's ok as she's in somebodys garden, wrong, wat i didnt add when i said all neighbours were farmers was that none of them have secure back gardens, bar ours the rest r all open as they back onto the fields that they plough..

living about 100ft from a fairly busy road, used by heavy machinery and alike, decided i wasnt goin to let this poor little girl carry on her free run any longer, so with my dogs put away, armed with a lead and a pocket full of treats went on my rescue mission...approaching her very slowly and being all calm tried to coax her over, was she having any of it, was she eck..off she ran, towards road, went after her couldnt c her...went bak into my garden, and thank god, there she was, shut gate, as i did she ran away from me again, this time into my dogs enclosure..GOT HER.
at this point decided it was time 2 wake up OH, (1) so he could help me & (2) i had locked myself out in the process..hee hee..got him 2 go round all of neighbours, just 2 make sure she wasnt local..while his doin that, im ringing all local vets, 2 c if n e one has reported her gone, NO..was then told by 1 to ring local police, which i did, call went like this.. "sorry, we dont come and collect, u will have to bring her into us" "i cant, she is 2 nervous, cant get near her" "nothing we can do then, phone local council for dog warden", they hung up.
phone council, told them situation, get told "sorry, dont have dog warden at wkends, will ring a kennel that sometimes helps us out, will get back 2 u shortly"

meanwhile OH comes bak, neighbours dont know where she comes from, but apparently she has been out all night, no-one could catch her..2hrs pass still no call back from council..so while im waiting decide to phone all local animal welfare organisations, and rspca and anything else i can find..n e luck, your havin a laugh, no answer from n e, was told by all machines basically to CALL BAK MONDAY..(little note 2 every1 here, tell your dogs if they r goin to run away to make sure its not a wkend)
another hour passes, phone council bak,"sorry, kennels havent got bak to us yet" i reply, i will phone the kennels personally..do so, guess wat, another machine..leave message..by this time ive said to OH we'll keep her to Monday..about another hour later, RING RING, kennels, finally..they have phoned local police apparently some1 about a mile away from us has reported a bitch missing, "can u ring the police bak".
n e way, to get to my rant, speak to owner OH gives him 3rd degree on phone reguarding dogs description etc, he comes round, by dogs reaction she is his..he cant help thanking us, and all that stuff, BUT, he then goes on to tell us he had only just found out she was missing from garden...ARRGGHHH :rolleyes:she has been gone now according to my neighbours approx 12/13hrs, and he has only just noticed..now please some1 tell me i am not alone when i say that im damn sure if my dogs had got out of my garden that i would know within 1/2hr let alone 12...im so sorry if this was so long winded, but i had to get ot off my chest, apologies to all

Nicci

ps have decided im goin to ask local council, as i have the time & space wat ive got to do so i can take lost dogs in for them at weekends as they have no dog warden, & the kennels they use r over 30 miles away

Hi Nicci,
Well done finding the owner in the end. Only shows determination and perseverance will pay off eventually:cool:
Agree with you, it's surprisingly difficult to get a stray dog off your hands, once you've taken it in.  I once took a stray Tibetan Spaniel dog in. He was found by some children, who brought him to me, knowing I have dogs. After an endless number of telephone calls, I finally got in touch with his breeder, she'd heard my "call for help" on the local radio station. After checking his tattoo, she gave me the telephone number of his owners. When I rang them up they didn't even know he was gone!!! He was such a charming little dog, felt really awful returning him to someone who didn't miss him when he had been gone the whole day.
I could never not try to return a stray to it's owner. I have done so a couple of more times, always think if it should happen to one of mine, someone might do for her what I'm doing for this dog now. I once returned an Irish Softcoated Wheaten Terrier to it's owners. Turned out nan was looking after grandchildren, dog ran off, she having her hands full with the kids didn't know what to do. She actually cried when I turned up on their doorstep.
Good luck with the weekend rescue:cool:

Good for you for rescuing her.  Bet you didn't feel like giving her back to that particular owner, did you?  I've twice called different neighbours, who live around the corner on a busy road, to tell them I'd found their dogs out running loose.  Both did not know the dog was out and both told me to chase them home, across the busy road.  Arrrgh!  I took one home myself but could not catch the other two, part hound puppies.  I have not seen the pair of part hounds for over two years so my guess is they did eventually get hit on the road.  Stupid people.
