Hi I have a 15 month old German Spitz who is always travel sick when in her crate in the boot of the car. I recently had to place her on the rear seat and she wasn't sick!! Has anyone any advice on this? I was thinking about getting a harness I think they are attached to the seatbelt Has anyone used one of these? I would like one that can be also used for walks. Thanks in advance Angela

Hi - Yes, often motion sickness is worse in the boot.  Sometimes fumes come in from the exhaust which makes an animal sick.  It is harder to see out the window in the boot, and being able to see where you're going is a major way to prevent travel sickness.  Also more fresh air and air circulation on the back seat.  Plus the dog will be thrown around less than in the boot.

A harness I'd recommend is the Mikki car harness.  I don't usually like MIkki products, but this one is good and fully adjustable.  You don't have to use it on walks as well if you don't want to - it's easy enough to leave it in the car and clunk click the dog into it.

I use the Mikki one and it's great.  I have a dog that's a puller on the lead so I leave it att. when we go for the walk and he's a lot better with that than a collar and lead.

We have the Mikki car harness too.  It is great.

Yes, my Yankee was always sick in the crate, but not in a harness in the back seat. He's ok in the crate now as an adult though, though he shivers and looks rather miserable wherever he's put!

My boxer sits in the back of the car with a harness on.  they're dead easy and theres plenty of room to move around.

i would never carry an unsecured animal in a car.  You wouldn't put a child in the back of a car without a seatbelt on so why do people allow dogs to run around the car.  In the event of a crash I do not want a ten year old boxer smashing into the back of my seat killing me or a passenger.

i would put a sheet or something on your car seat though, muddy seats and dog hairs are not convenient the next time you give a lift to someone and haven't cleaned the car!

I know several people that recomend the Hicraft ones, they can double up for walking too, and are padded.
