Tilly is 59 days pregnant and her temp is 37.2-37.5 degrees. Since late afternoon she has been panting and digging in her bedding (ate her tea ok). I moved her to our "puppy nursery" after tea and sat with her all night. She is now very restless and keeps digging in her whelping box, walking about, panting and licking herself. There is yet no signs of dark green fluid and just alittle clear discharge. She is going to the loo without probs (wee) and she has a snack at about 11pm. Sh appears to want to be sick, but she hasn't yet
She doesn't seem to have been straining yet but when she walks about her tail is low and her "bump" is very low.
Is this normal or am I just in a panic?
This is her 2nd litter, her first labour went great to the extend the pups cries woke me up and Tilly was nowhere close to as restless as she is now.

I have just phoned my vet to be on the safe side as hey have 24 emergancy call and he says that she is in the first stages of labour. If I am concerned in the morning to take her for a check-up (if very concerned during the night to phone back and take her in)
Any comments though would be great
Thank you

Signs of dark green fluid before you have a puppy born is not good, youd need a vet asap.

I think Cath 5 said "NO SIGNS OF DARK GREEN FLUID YET"

Well all ok !! Tilly had her first pup at 6am, 2nd at 8am and 3rd at 8.15am. I suspect that we might have another yet.
My only concern is that on her 3rd pup she has chewed the cord alittle too close to the little fella's tum. I have stopped bleeding best I could and he seems ok. Is there anything else I should do ?? I will keep an eye on him closely for the next 30 mins to make sure bleeding has stopped

I had this happen to one of mine and the vet told me if I could stop the bleeding, all would be fine (it was) but if mum opens it and/or it continued to bleed it would need a stitch.

I also had it happen - really frightening as she bled like the proverbial stuck pig! She was fine - is now 10 yrs old!

Now have 4 pups !! The little lad with the bleeding cord is fine. The bleeding has stopped and Tilly has cleaned him up
All 4 and mum doing well, just waiting now to see if 4 is the final pup. She had him 50 mins ago (1 and half hours afer pup 3)
Congratulations, and I'm glad your little lad is fine.
Does she seem settled with her babies now?

I had this and the pup ended up with a small hernia, so rather contradicting those who poo poo the idea that these can be caused by the dam.

I've also had this with one of mine where the one that was taken too close ended up with a hernia, all the rest were fine!

My bitches have always insisted on removing every scrap of umbilical cord, leaving the belly smooth. We've only had one true hernia and two tiny 'bumps' as a result - the rest have been fine.
