Topic Dog Boards / Health / drug testing and competition

Hello,

This is purely a question out of curiosity and aimed at myself or anybody else.

In equestrianism there are certain drugs that people use when competing their horses, some substances are acceptable and some are banned. Also at higher levels of competition their are random drugs testing carried out to moniter this. I was wondering is it the same in dogs for showing or agility etc, maybe calming substances or pain relief substances. Just generally wondering if this sort of thing goes on in the dog competition world also?

No they are not tested (blood or urine) for anything like that.  The show dogs are, however, randomly coat tested (small hair clippings are taken) at Championship shows to make sure there's nothing which would alter the natural texture and/or colour of the coat.
