i have been feeding my dog a mixture of rice and either tuna, sardines or chicken this week (as im having probs with naturediet delivery!!) i have been taking the bones out of the sardines, but do i need to do this? the bones are so fine so wondered if it was needed!!

if i feed fish with bones i put it in the blender to just make sure.

Depends how big the dog is?? I wouldn't bother taking the bones out, either for the Newfs or the Yorkies...I do however 'mash' them a bit for the wee doggies! But the bones are so soft and fragile that I don't think they would cause any harm...all the best, Dawn

Hi Weezie,

Good grief there is no need to debone fish, either raw or tinned! :D

Those of us that feed raw do not debone chicken, beef, lamb or pork either! :D

thanks!! sorry for being dim, but as we dont feed her raw just wanted to check!!

HI - I have fed the tinned sardines but reading this can buy whole uncooked fish from the fish counter and give straight to dogs without filletting - just to be sure to be sure I'm reading right :).  Understand about the uncooked meat but didn't realise about fish.  Don't bother removing the sardine bones from the tin but didn't realise about whole fish!

Is there any fish that should be avoided?

Thanks

A warning about raw fish.

It does not suit all dogs.

Some dogs have no problems with it, some dogs will not eat it and others will eat it and then reacquaint themselves with it some time later................

If it is on your carpet, this is bad news.......... for you............

If it is the car, this is also bad news, ........ for everyone who ever gets in.

I feed raw trout, sardines, herring, etc when available and discounted but if in doubt, stick to tinned fish, it generally agrees with more dogs than the raw stuff.........

i think i will stick to the tinned stuff! she once found and ate a decomposing fish and it was vile!! (i know i wont feed her a decomposing one!!!) also we have just sold our house, not sure the new buyer would appeciate the smell of fishy dog sick in his lovely new abode!!!

Oh yes this is so true :eek:  mind they usually eat it again as fast as it came out:eek: but only happens to my lot rarely now thank goodness:eek: :D

Tinned stuff it is then!!!! :)

I tend to feed tinned Pilchards as my Mal boy won't touch raw fish. My other two are fine with it raw though :)

Hiya yes fresh fish goes down well with a lot of dogs :) Sometimes the trout can weigh too much so I have to cut them up, same with salmon but I only buy them when its on offer & also squid/calamari   Mostly here the sardines are cheap so I give them to my lot usually twice a week but try to make it least once a week :)
