hi all can anyone reccomend how i can get some weight on my bullmastiff ,he is on pedigree professional (sp?) and tripe any tips plus my bitch is due in season and i need to keep weight on him for crufts any ideas how cheers dawn

Personally I wouldn't feed Pedigree Professional or otherwise...I hate the stuff!! Others may use it and swear by it! I've put a lot of condition on mine by using Autarky with a raw egg in everyday. All the best, Dawn
PS The other quality food I use is Nutro...go to www.nutro.co.uk
hi could i ask you why you dont like pedigree ? brock was on autarky but hated it he looks better on this cheers dawn
Personally, I would never feed Pedigree either.
However, that's not the question you asked: To get more weight on, try adding a tablespoon of olive oil to each meal, stirring it all in with the food.
hi onetwothree thanks for the reply

If I need a bit of weight before a show I usually add some pasta or some mince as in the value fatty mince sold in the supermarket chillers.

could i ask you why you dont like pedigree The ingredients

Pedigree is one of those foods who uses cheap and nasty ingredients which can change from batch to batch and then sells their products for overinflated prices.Same as science plan, peanut hulls, wheatmiddlings(=floor sweepings),by-products,grains etc are not expensive, and yet they sell their food at exhorbitant prices
Dawn there's a recipe you can find on the net called 'satin balls',it's used by alot of show people before shows to bulk up their dogs.Apparantly it can put weight on within days :) You could add it to your dogs meals a few times per week and see how it goes.
hi hailey what food do you reccomend as i will change i only want the best for my dogs

breast of lamb is supposed to be good for putting weight on :)

Hailey has left the building. Please note the byeline Admin has added to her post. It turned out Hailey was aka Ozzie72/Rose/Frodo and maybe others that I have forgotten so although you might think her views are fairly widely held across the forum you should be aware they are in fact down to just one person . If you dog has been doing well on Pedigree Professional I would continue in fact it seems to be quite well regarded in the showing world and has received testimonials on here.
Hi nuttyhousewife,
Well, I am just me and don't have multiple accounts - and still don't approve of Pedigree.
If you're interested, I can tell you why, if you list the ingredients here. Unfortunately Pedigree are one of the few companies that don't list their ingredients on their website, so I can't read them unless you post.
However, I've looked at the ingredients before at shows and in the supermarket and have not been impressed.
I'd suggest you look at Burns or James Wellbeloved. If you have a puppy I think James Wellbeloved is a slightly better option than Burns. If you have dogs which are prone to put on weight, I'd recommend Burns over James Wellbeloved.

If you want to feed wet food, I think Nature Diet is excellent: www.naturediet.net
Although I haven't fed it myself, Wafcol Salmon and Potato also looks like it has good ingredients - although some of their other "flavours" I wouldn't be so keen on.
All of the above is just my personal opinion, based on what I choose to feed to mine. I can explain further about why I think these foods are the best ones out there and what I dislike about Pedigree, if you like. Although, again, this is my personal opinion.
hi i have a bull dog pup and i am trying to put weight on him and i was feeding beta kibble and a pound of tripe ive now changed his kibble to james webeloved.but id still to the raw meat i know people who feed raw to gain weight.
