can someone please tell me at what stage of whelp can you see the puppys moving in mothers belly
I think it depends on the breed of dog, how many pups she has etc! I guess if you have a long coated bitch or one with a small number of pups you might never see or feel them moving?
My westie had 4 pups and I could feel them moving around about 8 weeks, if I remember right.
Sorry I'm not much help!
Hol

If I couldn't feel movement by 7 weeks, and see it by 8 weeks, I'd be very concerned.

I've quite often not seen much or any movement in litters I've had (but they do have slightly more coat than a DDB), so I usually resort to sitting with the bitch on my lap & just resting my hand on her stomach. (not really practical with a Dogue, I wouldn't think :D) Even then I had one litter (only one pup) when I only felt him move once - one almighty kick! It's usually been 7 or 8 weeks if I have seen them - lovely to see those ripply movements when Mum's all relaxed.
i had a bullmastiff girl that had a litter 7 weeks ago she had 7 pups and we could feel and see movemnt from about 6 1/2 weeks and i loved sitting with her of a evening when she was relaxed with my hand on her so i could see and feel the pups move it was great

My CKCS is 51 days pregnant, I can feel movement but only slightly see the odd twitch. I can't wait to see those darlings move about, I love that bit!

I have never been able to in my girls, means wither I am very insensitive to it, or they ahve such tight muscles you can't feel. Have very occasionally seen a slight shift when they are very big and lying on their sides resting.

I'm so glad you wrote this Brainless, I couldn't feel my girls pups and was starting to think this is terribly wrong - mind you there were only 4 of them, if I had seen this post before she whelped I would have been really worried!
hi douge
she started her first stages, heavy panting etc at 1 in afternoon and she had her first pup at ten past eight the following morning.
in between this i had her the the vets in the middle of the night because the vet was getting worried that she was not moving on from first stages like she was not having any contractions and but in the end she did one massive push and a pup was born, which the vet thought was funny as bitches usually have many contractions before they are born.
she had to have 3 oxitocin injection in between pups to move her along a little, well in certainly did as one was born in the car
I remember taking Keatah to the vets at 8 weeks. The vet said she didnt even look pregnent. I could see the difference as I knew her although I was concerned by the vets remarks. I only saw the pups move in the last week.
I couldnt believe the outcome only 5 days after these remarks she went on to have 5 beautifull pups all just over average size for the breed.
Its like with humans all dogs are different

My friend's bitch neither looked or felt pregnant up until about 2 or 3 days before she had 4 puppies! :-)
