hi im new to this site, been readin it 4 a few weeks now, i have a dog who is i think 61 days in whelp she has had bloodshot eyes for 3 days now, also not eaten much food can anyone PLEASE give me advice
- By Isabel Date 20.01.06 19:05 UTC
I would see a vet, if it was a human I would be worrying about high blood pressure but really don't know with dogs.
- By douge [in] Date 20.01.06 19:07 UTC
thanks very much for your advice do you think, she could be goin into labour
- By Isabel Date 20.01.06 19:09 UTC
Well its not an indication of labour in any bitch I have seen, perhaps another poster may have had a similar experience, but if it was me I would be giving my vet a phone at least.

From personal experience it could also be a result of the dog not getting much sleep. Have you noticed that your dog has been more active lately or maybe you've been giving extra exercise (not a bad thing!) to your dog.

If your dog does seem to be suffering from "insomnia" for no apparent reason then yes, I would consider going to the vet!

This bitch is 61 days pregnant  :)

I didn't notice that the bitch is 61 days pregnant. There's no need to get all picky about things. :)
- By Isabel Date 21.01.06 11:53 UTC
When I'm being picky I don't put the smillies ;)

hi claudia, how many pups did your bordeaux have?
- By claudia [gb] Date 22.01.06 14:19 UTC
she had 6 huge and really healthy pups,
is this your first litter of bordeaux
if so GET READY TO BE A WALKING ZOMBIE FOR THE NEXT FEW WEEKS.
- By douge [in] Date 22.01.06 19:16 UTC
hi claudia, yes this is our first litter of bordeauxs, my dog has just been asleep on a quilt and when we looked the quilt was soaking wet, could this be her waters ,shes not quite herself today a bit of heavy breathin, but has now gone back to sleep her eyes seem very distant, she hasnt shown any signs of digging though, her temp has been up and down past week it is now 100.1 and then it keeps goin to 99.8 any advice would be much appreciated

I noticed the red eyes for a week before one of my bitches whelped, and I did worry about high blood pressure!  However, she had a litter of 8 puppies quite naturally, and the red eyes went (at least they did in her - mine were red and held open by matchsticks for the next 3 weeks).

The next time she had a litter the same thing happened, and I worried again (as you do).  But everything was fine.

My bitch had a litter on Wednesday- her eyes were bloodshot last weekend and she started losing fluid (clear) about the same time.  She didn't really want to eat Monday or Tuesday and sure enough by Wednesday 2pm she started digging, not much just pulled the corner of the cover up in the whelping box, she did it again about 3pm a bit more this trime though, then again an hour later, about 5pm she started really digging- 5.20pm she had her first pup :-)  Good luck :-)

when it happens it will be  a very worrying time for both of you, just try to keep calm and help her through it.
it should not be very long now with the sounds of it.
i know you will be very tired when it is over but please pm me and let me know how you get on
GOOD LUCK
- By douge [gb] Date 24.01.06 15:24 UTC
