Hi
Is your Goldie a pup or an adult?
If you have never trained before, it's probably best to go to a trraiiinng class, I like to recommend trainers who are members of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers as they tend to specialise towards pet dog training rather than exact obedieince type work, amongst other reasons. There are various organisations, however they have members countrywide and can be checked out on apdt.co.uk (I should know how to change that to a clickable link by now :))
Try buying a few good books, I am assuming you do have a pet dog and not one you intend to use for any particular job; John Fisher's "Think Dog" is brilliant for rgeneral understanding, also Bruce fogle's ones on traininig, they are good as they have lots of step-by-step pictures in them.
You can start by teaching the recall just arond the house, by callng "Goldie, Come" or whatever you wan tto use, when somethng nice is goin gto happen, for example his dinner!
Remember to be interesting fo ryour dog, use toys and praise as well as titbits fo rrewards, so your dog nenver knows what's coming next, and use an interesting voice.
Anyway just a few ideas from me, i am sure others will have more ideas.
Good luck withyour Goldie, they are lovely dogs.
Best wishes
Lindsay
