Some will remember our boy had a slipped disc and fusion of some of his vertebrae about 3 years ago and made a very slow recovery.
All has been well till a week ago were he started screaming  for no apparent reason, then yesterday he refused to leave his bed which for Sid is most unusual as he is the greediest dog I have ever known. Took him to the Vets last night and it would appear that his problem has flared up. He was given Valium and Morphine and put back on strict bed rest. He is home on Zubrin and Tagamet  which apparently  studies  indicate a link between back pain and gastric ulcers. The Vet could explain no further.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this??
Fingers crossed that he improves over the weekend or he will need to be admitted on Monday.
He looks so miserable, last time he tried to move around till he collapsed this time he doesn't even attempt to move which is a good thing as at least he is resting :-(

Hi - have you considered talking to a chiropractor about this for their advice? :)

Hi herbiedax,  I know that dogs and humans are different but I've got a bad back just now and am seeing a chiropracter who is also doing acupuncture who is great.  Does your vet do any alternative therapies or is there any in the area who do?   I know that my GP has been fobbing me off with painkillers (as your vet is doing) but my progress has been made by going private and getting treatment that treats the problem rather than the symptoms and unlike myself you will probably be covered by insurance for the treatment.

I've had sciatica recently, my Doctor told me that all he could do was give me painkillers and the best advice he could give me was to go to a chiropracter. It's really helped me. I remember Sid's problems and hope things settle down again

If the OP sends me a PM I will put them in touch with a Chiropractor who is qualified in treating dogs. She is not McTimony trained.

I am also having treatment from a Chiro at the moment and he's brill - and so are my horses :D
