Have been feeding my dog the frozen complete Nature's Menu and she's been loving it.  This is since Nature Diet became difficult to get hold of, but the change has been a welcome one as far as Rosie's concerned. Three days ago, she woolfed her tea and then brought the whole lot up. At first I thought she'd just overloaded her stomach and was paying the price, however, through the night she was sick again and I had to let her out. She's had diahorrea ever since. I starved her for the first 24 hrs and then reintroduced a small amount of Nature's Menu with a little boiled rice. Still having diahorrea. Last night I gave her a small amount of chicken and rice. She woolfed it up and wanted more, but I only let her have a small amount. Thinking it was the best thing for her stomach. This morning she's had a bonio happily and has had a walk and seems fine, but she did a horrid poo which was mucousy and bloody. I've made an appointment to see the vet this afternoon. I'm expecting him to put her on a prescription diet, but my feeling is that it will do no good. (She's been on it a few months ago and it did nothing for her - Hills - PLUS it's so expensive.)  Do you think I should starve her again??  Any thoughts appreciated - particularly reference the prescription diet. I think I'd rather be giving her chicken and rice for a while if the vet suggests a change.  Many thanks to all.

Unless the problem had been going on for a while, I wouldn't have thought the vet would recommend a prescription diet?  Why was she on a prescription diet before?  Has she had other episodes like this?

It would seem from your post that she has only had problems for the last three days.  Once your vet has reached a diagnosis, he/she may amongst other things, suggest temporarily feeding a bland diet to help her recover but if you don't want to use a prescription diet for this, I would just say so and ask if you can prepare it yourself.
