A couple of weeks ago I was out walking with my Staffy Troy (13 months old, on an extendable lead on a public foot path) and another Staffy came hurtling around the corner (not on a lead) with the owner chasing and shouting at his dog to come back, however the Staffy's recall was obviously not good and he continued running towards us, growling in the process. Once he had reached us this Staffy lunged at Troy and a fight kicked off, Troy has never been involved in a dog fight before and is always very sociable around other dogs. It all happened so quick and myself and my mum managed to get the dogs apart and the owner of the other dog just stood there, once they were separated he grabbed his dog and started telling him off. On Tuesday night there was a lady up ahead of us with a white boxer and a lady on the otherside of the path with her two Labradors who were of the lead, the Labradors started jumping over this white boxer and the owner just stood there and did not even bother to call them off, the poor lady with the boxer was overpowered by all three dogs and managed to drag her boxer away up the path. These Labradors approached me and obviously from what I saw I was pretty apprehensive as to what was going to happen. These Labs were growling when approaching us and I ask this owner to put her dogs on the lead or to call them back, she did not, she did not even try to hurry over to move her dogs away or nothing. We ended up having a disagreement because she stated that dogs should not be on leads and should be aloud to roam about, I said what even when your dogs are not very sociable and are harassing other people who are walking their dogs, obviously this discussion did not get very far and she walked off. I just felt she was an irresponsible dog owner because she had no leads on her and the dogs were walking of without her and she was doddling along behind them as she was disabled with a stick. I contacted the local Dog Warden just to see really how I stood in regards to these events and found her to be not much help at all, she said there was no laws surrounding dogs and that basically they can roam of the lead wherever they want and why did I not let my dog of the lead. I replied that Troy's re-call is not 100% and he is such an affectionate dog that he would approach any type of person/dog thinking he could give them affection and not everyone likes dogs and I am unsure of the dogs around my area seeing as though I do not know them. Troy does come of the lead out the forest and in areas I feel confident in and it seemed she was making it out to be my dog that was in the wrong because she asked what type of breed of dog I had. Don't get me wrong I do not mind dogs being off the lead as long as they are great on re-call and the owners are in control, I have been approached many times by dogs of the lead who have a sniff of Troy and he them then they walk off. I Would appreciate any advice on this. Thanks
