My 5 year old  blue german shepherd bitch has just been diagnosed with colour dilution alopecia. I searched the web and have now learnt what it is and why she has it (genetics) and the fact that there is no cure but other than treating any immediate skin infections with antibiotics and bathing her in anti-bactarial shampoo regularly I would greatly appreciate any advice on managing her skin and limiting the damage as much as possible. On the sites I have visited they mention that this occurs in quite a few breed but never mention GSD's. Does anyone one have any experience of this in GSD's?

No advice, but for others reading and who wonder why certain dilute colours are fronwned on or unpopular in many breeds your case gives a good reason.

My advice would be to make sure she has a good level of Omega 3 and 6 oils to keep her sking in tip top condition, where it is less likely to get damaged and infected.

So good diet and grooming, and early intervention with any skin irritation to limit problems.

I would agree, our dog was rescued from a "backyard" breeder and had  2/3 litters before that so the likelyhood is that same of her puppies will have this problem too. Its such a shame as she is a lovely dog with a fantastic nature.  I wouldn't be without her. It appears that no one wants to talk about this problem as it might raise the question of rights and wrongs of breeding blues etc. The old thing of if you don't talk about it, it might go away
