know this is simular to the maturity posting, but i was just wondering at what age a gsd castrated male is classed as mature. in other words when will my boy do as he is told first time every time and begin to stop trying to play with every dog we ever meet. being a large boy the majority of people do not appreciate his rather full on aproach to there dogs

A lot of this is more to do with training then maturity -especially the part about doing as told first time told. :) You need to make sure he does it every time and never repeat a command if it is ignored, as he will just learn to not listen to you. What age was he castrated at? It will take him longer to mature if he was done very young. Have you been to training classes? That can help a lot, especially with behaving around other dogs.
hi goldmali, i have just posted under general looking for a training school so aware that this is needed. yes we did go training when he was a puppy and gained the puppy gc award and was working well towrds the bronze when i went and tore the ligaments in my right ankle inculding the acilles so was out of action for a good 2 months, then we had car trouble so could not get to training, then when we went back fred had grown so big and the people at training had changed and i felt that we where not welcome there, every other dog was either a king charles, lab , westie or such like. we then had the devistating news that fred has hd. although this is controlled to begin with his hip was very inflammed and painful for him. freddie was just over a year when he was castrated, he had and undesended tsticle which was pressing on his bladder . i hope this has answered so questions for you.

my gsd is the same, very big and playful, he is as good as gold in training class where he knows what is expected of him but once he gets the grass under his feet and sees another dog running free it all goes out the window a bit, having said that, he is quick to return now and will do basic commands around other dogs of lead which he would never do before so i think you just have to hang in there with the training and eventually age and persistance will pay off( i hope).
